Pitino, who has taken three different schools to the Final Four among his seven total appearances, will be taking over a St. John's program that has fallen from relevance on the national stage over the last 20 years, making just three NCAA tournament appearances since the 2002-03 season. The Red Storm have won just two tournament games in that span.
Pitino is 834-293 -- a winning percentage of .740 -- in 35 years as a Division I coach, for Hawaii, Boston University, Providence, Kentucky, Louisville and Iona.
