Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford to much fanfare in August 2021 after the Red Devils paid Juventus €15 million to secure the Portuguese forward's services.
However, although the 37-year-old amassed 24 goals in all competitions for the Mancunians and was the club's top goalscorer last season, United suffered their worst league campaign in the Premier League era as they finished in sixth position with 58 points. With no UEFA Champions League football in 2022/23 as a result, Ronaldo has become disillusioned and wants to leave the club, with international football's all-time leading goalscorer reportedly eager to still compete for football's top prizes.In recent days, it was said the club's leadership were insistent on keeping their star player, but new manager Erik ten Hag has reportedly come to terms with the idea that he will have to plan ahead without Ronaldo.
The former Real Madrid man is yet to report for pre-season training and with the club set to leave on tour for Bangkok soon, they will be eager to start the new coach's tenure on the right foot by avoiding a drawn-out transfer saga. Very few teams would be willing to take Ronaldo's exorbitant wages on board considering his age, but it has been suggested that the five-time Champions League winner could be willing to take a pay cut to facilitate a move to a more competitive side.
