The same report suggests that the former Ajax Amsterdam boss was keen to start the player in that friendly, but because the tactician deems late-coming as a sign that standards are beginning to falter, Ten Hag reportedly felt he had to take action. It's process that seems to be working, with United going unbeaten in all four of their pre-season fixtures so far, but whether his disciplinarian style of management will work in the Premier League remains to be seen.
