The female-founded company, Remrise emerged from stealth with $8.2 million in funding to help you naturally get more sleep
With one third of Americans not getting enough shut eye, the sleep-health industry is now valued at. And the latest sleep startup to emerge to tackle the problem is Remrise, a female-founded company looking to replace your Ambien with a personalized sleep aid rooted in Eastern medicine. Today it emerged from stealth with $8.2 million in fresh funding from a seed round led by Founders Fund.
Growing up, whenever Lee got sick her immigrant mother would always turn to traditional Chinese herbs to soothe her sickness. So when she started experiencing chronic sleep problems, she sought out similar remedies but failed to find any consumer-friendly options. She began experimenting with creating her own sleep concoctions, mixing magnesium with amino acids like L-theanine, GABA and L-tryptophan. Those concoctions have evolved into the company’s current suite of sleep remedies, which were created while Lee was a founder in residence at the venture firm Atomic.
“We want to get people off prescription drugs, but there is going to be a transition period if people are actually taking Ambien on a daily basis,” admits Lee.
