Born in Gqeberha on 15 May 1973, Mayo, also known as Mzolisi by his school peers, first tasted professional football at Umthatha Bush Bucks in 1997. He later moved to SuperSport United before the exciting transfer to Chiefs in 2003, where he remained until 2007.Mayo would then play his final seasons as a professional at Thanda Royal Zulu and Bay United before retiring in 2012.
