THUNDER BAY — Thunder Bay continued to have a high homicide rate compared with other Canadian cities last year, but Regina had a slightly worse rate.It showed the Saskatchewan capital had a homicide rate of 5.67 per 100,000 people in 2021.Winnipeg's rate was 5.39, giving it the third worst rate among 36 Census Metropolitan Areas.
Between 2016 and 2020, Thunder Bay had the highest homicide rate among all CMAs, ranging from 5.57 to 7.15. The 2021 rate of 5.63 per 100,000 is based on seven homicides that year, but so far this year there have already been 10.
