Left with a sour taste in his mouth after a loss to the Ticats, Ottawa Redblacks QB Dustin Crum is looking ahead to a game vs. the Riders

“Any time you lose, it leaves a sour taste in your mouth,” said Crum following Wednesday’s practice at TD Place. “Having a couple of extra days off to think about it before being able to get out on the practice field again, it drove me a bit crazy on the weekend. You take the good and the bad, and try to learn from it and improve so we can have a good game this weekend.”

“He’s had some success early,” said Redblacks head coach Bob Dyce. “But he’s only played a few games. His path to being a top-level or elite starter in this league will take some time. He’ll develop as he goes. Right now, when he makes the decision to run, he just runs. He has to make sure he keeps his eyes up; things may open up. Teams have to adapt because he’s such a good runner. When he does step up, maybe there’s something he can do to put the ball over the top.

“Sometimes you think he’s under pressure, you think it must have been a back or it must have been the offensive linemen,” said Dyce. “From the sideline, I thought maybe the offensive line wasn’t playing up to the expectation, but watching the film, they played much better than I originally thought. There were times the ball should have been out of hands quicker. Sometimes it’s a receiver not getting to his depth.

“It seems like so long ago,” said Dyce. “We didn’t get the result we wanted. But, watching the film, there were a lot of positives we’ll continue to build on this week. We’re full steam ahead for Saskatchewan.”“We’ll see what happens in regards to B-Dan,” said Dyce. “You see him walking around here and he’s limping a bit. He hasn’t been out to practice. If you look at where he was right after the game, he’s made incredible gains. We’ll see where that ends up, but I would say see B-Dan this week.
