Looking for team chemistry, Ottawa Redblacks coach Bob Dyce and QB Jeremiah Masoli decided it was a good idea to change locker room seating
“Everybody needs to get to know everybody,” said Dyce. “These guys spend a lot of their position meetings together. Not that things get cliquish, but you see the same guys all the time. We really want this to be a team where everybody knows everybody. Jeremiah and I felt it was a good way to get everybody integrated, working together and on the same page.
“It’s been nice getting to know some of the defensive guys … and talking trash to them,” said receiver Jaelon Acklin, who sits between defensive backs Hakeem Bailey and Ty Cranston, with a laugh. “We’re bonding, more than last year because of the way the seating is in the locker room,” said Hogan-Saindon, who sits between linebackers Jovan Santos-Knox and James Peter. “It forces us to interact with players maybe we wouldn’t interact with much.”“In the O-line room, we’re glued together,” said centre Cyrille Hogan-Saindon. “We’re building chemistry really fast. We’re already friends. Me, Jacob and Drew have already spent a lot of time together.
“Last year, I was just trying to find my role on the team ,” he said. “This year, I knew what the plan was and I wanted to show the coaches and the front office I was their guy. I feel like I’m faster physically and mentally. I found I needed to step it up. I can identify the defence way quicker, I can make the calls for my guards and tackles.”
