The first unit would provide basic sanitation facilities for 20,000 people and the second unit would produce enough clean water for 15,000 people per day.
Emergency water and sanitation response units were being deployed to Beira, Mozambique as the world’s largest humanitarian network upscaled its response to Cyclone Idai, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said on Thursday.
The mass sanitation Emergency Response Unit was being deployed by the British Red Cross with support from the Swedish Red Cross, while the water ERU was being deployed by the Spanish Red Cross with support from the French Red Cross. A third emergency response unit, designed to manage the complex logistics involved in such a large operation, was also being deployed via the Swiss Red Cross.
