EXCLUSIVE: An email seen by the Record confirms Colin Gambles will be standing down
The rector of a private school in Glasgow dogged by a dispute with staff over pensions is to stand down next week.
An email seen by the Record from Hutchesons Educational Gramme said that “new leadership” was required at the school. Members of the EIS teaching union at the school in the south of Glasgow voted went on strike recently amid a “fire and rehire” row. According to the union, staff were sent letters over the Easter break saying they would have to sign new contracts, with the jobs of anyone who refused being advertised elsewhere.An email to former pupils and friends of the school, sent by the chairman of the board, noted that the last few months had been “very challenging”.
He added: “After careful reflection, the Rector and the Board of Governors have together decided that new leadership is needed to position the school in the best place to move forward.First Minister Humza Yousaf and Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar both attended the school.
