ParksNL is celebrating a record-breaking year for visits to the province's 32 provincial parks. - 123rf PhotoST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Newfoundland and Labrador is reporting a record-breaking 233,000 visits to the province's 32 provincial parks in 2022.

It represents an increase of about 10,000 visitors compared with last year and an increase of 76,000 over the pre-pandemic year in 2019, the province said. The province also set a new record for campsite stays, with occupancy hitting a high of 66,527 camper nights. The previous record was 65,981 camper nights set in 2013.

"Our provincial parks have always been a favourite destination for local residents and visitors alike, and it’s exciting to see that people are returning to enjoy these beautiful natural areas,” said Steve Crocker, minister of tourism, culture, arts and recreation.It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
