Manchester City will discover their Champions League opponents this afternoon and MEN Sport takes a look at the best and worst case scenario for the Blues.

The new format means the 2023 winners will face eight teams in the new ‘league phase’, playing two sides from each coefficient pot; one they will face at home and the other away. Man City’s aim is to get into the top eight of the table.

This makes the draw more treacherous for Man City, and others in pot one, who are not necessarily guaranteed an easy ride. This is part of the reason why the format has changed given the likes of City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich made a mockery of the old group stages in recent years. Best case From pot one, the most appealing match-ups would be against Borussia Dortmund, probably at the Etihad to avoid Yellow atmosphere takeover, and RB Leipzig. City have faced Leipzig four times in the last two seasons and won three times, obtaining an aggregate scoreline of 14-4.

Slovan Bratislava of Slovakia reach the main competition of the Champions League for the first time ever while Austrian champions Sturm Graz arguably double up as the two easiest ties from pot four.
