Paul Rusesabagina was credited with saving hundreds of people during the Rwandan genocide but later jailed in what supporters said was a show trial. Now, after pressure from the US he has been freed. kirancmoodley reports.
Almost 30 years ago, Paul Rusesabagina saved hundreds of his own countrymen during the inter-ethnic genocide that gripped Rwanda.But eighteen months ago he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for treason.
He says his arrest was prompted by his criticism of the Rwandan President’s human rights record, and many, including the US and the UN, have described his trial as unfair.
