Read the memo Google sent to UK staff as the company lays off 12,000 employees
have all recently announced layoffs in the tens of thousands following more than two years of aggressive expansion. The explanations for layoffs are often the same, with CEOs saying they expected heightened demand for their services to continue beyond the pandemic. But as lockdown restrictions lifted and consumers returned to some level of normalcy, companies found the additional employees were no longer necessary to meet demand.
This means that, in accordance with UK law and requirements, we will begin what's called a collective consultation process where required. This collective consultation will be with a group of elected UK employee representatives. Elections will start shortly after you'll hear from me soon on candidate selection and voting.
