The newest royal horse will be the King\u0027s \u0027charger horse,\u0027 ridden during Trooping the Colour parades.
A media release said King Charles had personally requested a horse from the Ottawa-based Musical Ride to eventually be his new charger horse — ridden for Trooping the Colour parades — when his current horse, George, retires. George was initially presented to Queen Elizabeth II by the RCMP in 2009 and has been the King’s charger horse since then.Sign up to receive daily headline news from Ottawa Citizen, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.
“I speak on behalf of the entire Musical Ride when I say that it was an incredible honour to receive a request for a Musical Ride horse from His Majesty King Charles III,” Supt. Kevin Fahey, the RCMP officer in charge of the Musical Ride and Heritage Branch, said in the release.
Over the previous 54 years, the RCMP presented Queen Elizabeth with eight horses in total: Burmese ; Centenial ; James ; George ; Elizabeth ; Sir John ; and Kluane and Darby .
