South African rugby player Raymond Rhule announces his immediate retirement due to an ongoing Achilles injury.
Raymond Rhule , the 32-year-old rugby player known for his time with the Cheetahs, Stormers, and La Rochelle, is set to announce his immediate retirement from professional rugby. Rhule's decision comes after a lengthy battle with an Achilles heel injury sustained in August of last year, which sidelined him for five months. Despite initial hopes for a return to action in January, Rhule has struggled to regain his full fitness. Medical professionals have now advised him to end his career.
Rhule, born in Ghana but a Springbok representative after obtaining South African citizenship, had a notable career. He earned seven Test caps and scored five tries for South Africa in 2017 under former Springbok coach Allister Coetzee. Rhule's journey began with the Cheetahs in 2012, followed by a season with the Stormers in 2018. He then ventured to France, playing for Grenoble before joining La Rochelle in 2020, where he achieved two European Champions Cup titles.
