Mpumalanga's Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary released a heart-warming video of the baby popping out and promptly taking its first steps.

A nine-year-old white rhino cow named Olive was brought to Mpumalanga’s Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary in 2013 after she was left orphaned. However, she hasn’t let that trauma hold her back.

After becoming one of the first rhinos to complete her rehabilitation programme and enter the rewilding and release programme, Olive has become a mother herself. The sanctuary released a heart-warming video of the baby popping out and promptly taking its first breath before getting up for its first few steps.“For the first time, the birth was captured on video by Olive’s guard.

If Olive is anything to go by – described as a “feisty girl, full of mischief and independence” per the organisation – the baby is probably running laps right about now.She is still learning to navigate her way through the complexities of grazing on short soft blades of grass but she has absolutely no issue with wanting to carry a huge stick home in her mouth!

After her afternoon walk to the veldt, Daisy stopped to see if she could carry this rather large souvenir back with her. Her innocent curiosity at the world is such a privilege to witness.
