Nick Nurse is feeling rather optimistic about his basketball team these days, and who could blame him?

“I mean there is not one of them here today, right? The reason for that is they are all in the gym together working out. Literally, the entire team barring one guy who is doing a basketball event in another country. So, we’ve seen some really good signs for some cohesion and some belief and building.”

“I think when we started last year, we didn’t know who we were at all,” Nurse said. “Picked 11th or 12th in the , we had no idea. And then we came out playing like we didn’t know who we were or what we were and then all of a sudden, we got pretty good.” Somehow Nurse got through his entire media session without mentioning the name of reigning rookie of the year Scottie Barnes, but there’s no question Barnes is right at the top of the list of why the Raptors should be even better this year.Article content

Depth was an obvious problem a year ago, but Nurse already sees that being addressed with the full acclimation of a player such as Young into the team after his mid-season arrival, the continued progress being made by Dalano Banton, Justin Champagnie and Malachi Flynn, and the arrival via free agency of Porter Jr.Article content
