Rapist headbutted woman in face and said 'I don't care if you don't want to have sex'
A man has been jailed after beating and then raping a woman in a vicious booze-fuelled attack. Martin Read, 52, had been out drinking before he launched the 'spontaneous' attack on his victim at an address in Oldham.
The court heard she tried to 'placate' him in the hope of making an escape. However, after going upstairs in the property for a short time he returned with no clothes on. Read, of Honeywell Lane, Oldham, who has eight previous convictions but none for sexual offences made "full admissions" in his police interview and pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and rape at the first opportunity.
He said his previous conviction "don't display someone who's criminally sophisticated or has committed serious criminal offences." "There's the significant issues of your difficulties. In light of the brevity of the offence, your guilty pleas, your learning difficulties and the fact it has taken almost two years to get the case to this point, means I am able to move it into a lower category.
