The blaze has charred 183 acres and is burning near Chuck Wagon and San Vicente roads; at least one firefighter was hurt, but few details about those injuries were immediately available
A temporary evacuation center was set up at Olive Pierce Middle School on Hanson Lane. Sheriff’s officials advised residents headed to the school to go north on San Vicente or south on Barona Road.
“Pets cannot fend for themselves and leaving them behind can risk both their lives and those of rescuers,” the Humane Society said on Twitter. Heat and humidity were proving to be challenges, the captain said. Ramona saw temperatures climb into the high 80s Wednesday afternoon, and winds were gusting at about 15 mph, according to a Weather Channel forecast.
