Legislators are now gearing themselves up for a full-blown enquiry into the raft of allegations made by De Ruyter
The consensus among MPs came after their general dissatisfaction over De Ruyter’s three-hour appearance and his refusal to answer an array of questions based on the allegations he first made on national television earlier this year.
De Ruyter later made a turnabout and told legislators that he had never said it was a minister who had been involved, and that it was, in fact, a senior politician. Scopa chairperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa told his MPs that the hearing would be used to quiz Gordhan, the Eskom board – led by its chairperson, Mpho Makwana – and Mufamadi on De Ruyter’s claims when they appear next week, following complaints by committee members that the former CEO of the national power producer was not forthcoming with any more information than he had previously exposed. We need these answers.
