President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced ambitious plans to eradicate corruption in South Africa during his State of the Nation Address (SONA). He highlighted the establishment of a permanent Investigating Directorate Against Corruption within the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), a world-class digital forensics lab, and the implementation of legislative reforms. Ramaphosa also emphasized the importance of whistle-blower protection and the review of the anti-corruption architecture.

He said they will ensure the directorate is fully resourced and has access to the information needed to prosecute state capture cases and hold those responsible to account. The president said the Special Investigating Unit and Asset Forfeiture Unit report that over R10 billion has been recovered in state capture-related cases.
Ramaphosa added: “We will finalise the whistle-blower protection frameworks and introduce the Whistle-blower Protections Bill in Parliament during this financial year.”
