President Cyril Ramaphosa outlines government's agenda, focusing on infrastructure development, energy sector reform, and addressing service delivery challenges.

The State of the Nation Address (SoNA) is an annual address delivered by the President of South Africa , Cyril Ramaphosa , outlining the government's agenda and plans for the year. Delivered in Cape Town on Thursday, February 6, 2025, Ramaphosa's address focused on key issues facing the nation, including service delivery, load shedding , and infrastructure development.

He acknowledged the challenges of water scarcity and frequent power outages, promising substantial investments in expanding water resources and revitalizing the energy sector. \Ramaphosa announced a commitment to invest over R940 billion in infrastructure over the next three years, emphasizing the importance of transportation infrastructure, particularly the revitalization of small harbours to unlock economic opportunities for coastal communities. He also highlighted the government's efforts to reform the energy sector, citing the implementation of the Energy Action Plan and the introduction of the Electricity Regulation Amendment Act, which aims to create a more competitive electricity market. \While Ramaphosa presented a vision for a nation with work for all and opportunities for everyone to thrive, experts have expressed reservations about the feasibility of his plans. University of Johannesburg Public Management expert Daniel Meyer questioned the source of funding for the ambitious infrastructure projects, highlighting the government's increasing reliance on loans and the potential strain on the national budget. He also criticized the lack of a clear economic plan, arguing that the focus on inclusive growth without addressing global market competition would not be sufficient to boost the economy. Dr John Molepo, Associate Professor at Tshwane University of Technology, expressed concerns about the potential for political instability, stating that the inclusion of the GNU (Government of National Unity) might hinder progress due to disagreements on key issues such as land expropriation, the National Health Insurance (NHI), and the Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA)
