Local Serbian fans ecstatic Rajakovic named Raptors head coach as Djokovic was winning French Open and Jokic won NBA Finals MVP.
Dragovic said she managed to catch the fourth quarter of the Denver-Miami game, just in time to witness the historic victory.
“I think he’s a good person, and someone who loves where he comes from,” she said. “You know, Jokic, he doesn’t look like he can do all of that. He looks slow and not athletic. But probably he’s very smart and really good at basketball.” Mijic was born here but her mother came from Serbia, and she once visited the country when she was six. She hopes the new head coach brings the European basketball mentality that she said is more “team-ball oriented.”
The excitement of seeing a coach from Serbia, a small war-torn country where “almost everyone knows each other,” extends beyond basketball and bleeds into community building, inspiring the younger generations, she said.
