RAF CEO Collins Letsoalo said it is profoundly disappointing that some hospital patients and accident survivors encounter thieves disguised as professionals) on Tuesday said that it was ready to assist the Special Investigating Unit and the department of health in their investigations into fraudulent activities, following the recent revelation of fraudulent medical claims by legal practitioners.

With the SIU's help, the DoH said it successfully saved over R3 billion from fraudulent medical malpractice claims.In the aftermath, legal practitioners who used to litigate against the RAF seem to have migrated en masse to the healthcare sector. The fund said that it had compiled a database of lawyers and doctors involved in fraudulent claims against both the RAF and potentially the DoH.President Cyril Ramaphosa authorised the SIU to investigate corruption, fraud and maladministration related to medico-legal claims within the public health sector.
