Ex UFC champion Sean Strickland ranted about having to fight in South Africa, after Dricus du Plessis beat Izzy Adesanya over the weekend.
MMA fighter Sean Strickland has thrown shade at South Africa and reigning Middleweight World Champion Dricus du Plessis after the latter’s defeat of Israel “Izzy” Adesanya in the UFC 305 over the weekend.Dricus won the title by beating Strickland in January at UFC 297, after the latter beat Izzy in the UFC 293 fight in September 2023.on Saturday, 17 August, Sean Strickland weighed in about the possibility of having to fight in South Africa, which he labelled an “Apartheid country.
He continued in more tweets: “That country is so f**ked.. I fought there when I was a kid.. poverty, racism, violence. It’s actually kinda sad, especially for the children. I went to an orphanage, and man…… they don’t even try to be decent there.” Referring to Dricus as a “Dutch man,” he added: “Just because you say it’s over doesn’t make it over.”“It’s just a f**king sh*t hole. Flying across the world to go to the most racist, violent place on earth… This is not a lie. This is factual.”
Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has already expressed interest in bidding for the next fight to take place in the city.According to Mixed Martial Arts Association of South Africa spokesperson Lauren Rudolph, Dricus’s hometown of Pretoria would be the better option.“My heart would say Cape Town, but the city of Tshwane would make more sense… A lot of our fighters have a bigger fighting pool coming out of Johannesburg and Pretoria at the moment, so that would make more sense..
