WestSideStory's Rachel Zegler is thrilled for her co-star Ariana DeBose's and casting director Cindy Tolan's BAFTA wins, tweeting out her congratulations following last night's ceremony. 'my ariana. my cindy. close to my heart. forever.' ❤️
Rachel Zegler reacts gratefully to the wins of West Side Story at the 2022 BAFTA Awards. The remake of the 1961 musical movie directed by Steven Spielberg, has become a successful awards player at all the major ceremonies. Zegler made her movie debut as Maria, the love interest of Tony, played by Ansel Elgort, and has received much acclaim, winning a Golden Globe Award and a National Board of Review for Best Actress, along with nominations from many critics' associations.
Her co-star Ariana DeBose, who portrays Anita in West Side Story, has had the most success at the awards, winning the Globe, and becoming the first Afro-Latina and openly queer woman of color to win the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actress. DeBose also just picked up the Critics' Choice and the BAFTA Award, with both of the ceremonies being held the night before.

Along with DeBose, West Side Story also won Best Editing at the Critics' Choice, and is up for seven Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director for Spielberg, Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design.
It is safe to presume that Zegler will attend the Academy Awards on March 27 to support her movie, and will no doubt be happy for DeBose and any of the nominees from West Side Story, should they have their named called from the envelope. The role has garnered Zegler continued success and she will next be seen in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and will play Snow White in the upcoming movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
