The Shadow Chancellor's speech was well received by a packed conference audience in Liverpool
Rachel Reeves told Rishi Sunak to "bring it on" as she vowed to become the country's first female Chancellor.
“Labour will fight this next election on the economy. Every day we will expose what the Conservatives have done to our country.” There has never been a female Chancellor of the Exchequer and Ms Reeves said it would be "the privilege of my lifetime" to hold the role. She added: "More important than that it would come with a great weight of responsibility.
“The work of women has been undervalued for too long. That is why I have asked Frances O’Grady to examine how we can go further and faster so that the next Labour government makes the next great strides towards ending the gender pay gap once and for all.” She called her approach "securonomics" and said that Labour would move the country away from the “wreckage of Tory misrule” with a “vision to rebuild Britain”.
