Harlequins captain Danny Care is wary of facing a Springbok-powered DHL Stormers when the teams clash at Cape Town Stadium in the Champions Cup on Saturday.
Stormers skipper Steven Kitshoff is one of eight Boks in line to front the English Premiership side, while Dan du Plessis, Ernst van Rhyn and Neethling Fouche are all set to earn their 50th Stormers caps. Also, Brok Harris will make it 250 combined caps for the Stormers and Western Province in the last-16 encounter in the Mother City.
Boks Andre Esterhuizen and Wilco Louw are among three SA-born players named in the Quins 23 to face the reigning Vodacom URC champions, with former SA Schools and SA U20 representative Irne Herbst slotting into the second row., Care revealed the challenge of running out in front of 50,000 South Africans and facing some of the best players in the Republic.
“It’s not a bad stadium, is it? For someone like me, 36, coming to the end, I’d never have thought I’d go to South Africa on a tour again,” the veteran England scrumhalf said. “It sounds simple but just to feel the sun makes you feel a bit happier. I’ve loved it.“It’s hard because our fans can’t come and watch it, but it’s unique to come out here and try to get to a European Cup quarter-final.
“We’re playing pretty much a full Springbok team. If you don’t play well against this lot, you’re gonna get battered.” He added: “You miss not playing for England. You miss playing against the best in tough environments. It’s going to be rocking. We’ve had amazing European away days with this club. We’re not in Europe here, but this would probably top the lot if we can get a victory.”
