Armed police swarmed Cranfield View off Cranberry Lane as residents sat down to watch the Queen's funeral
As most of the nation was mourning the loss of Queen Elizabeth II on Monday , armed police flooded an otherwise deserted Darwen street.
A large number of officers from Lancashire Constabulary, including armed police and dog handlers, descended on the small street of terraced houses. Many watched in shock at the scenes which unfolded at around 10am. One woman, who lives in the nearby Spring Vale Garden Village housing development, was walking her dog when the police vehicles 'raced up' Cranberry Lane. "It was all incredibly dramatic," she said.
One Cranfield View resident said he had asked police about a dog, understood to have got out of the property police had attended, which was 'running around the street'. "I was worried about it but they said 'we'll deal with it' so I don't know if they managed to get it and take it to kennels," he added.
