Kevin Rochebrun and Steve Emmanuel Barthelemy are expected to appear in court in Laval to face charges in the attempted murder of the alleged Montreal Mafia leader.

Rochebrun and Barthelemy were arrested previously in connection with the shooting, but were released. SQ spokesperson Marc Tessier said on Monday that additional information garnered over the course of the investigation led to the pair being arrested a second time.

Rochebrun has served time in the past following his conviction on charges related to the attempted murder of another person with alleged ties to the Montreal Mafia. On Aug. 8, 2016, Marco Pizzi, now 52, was driving along Grande-Allée Ave., near Prince-Albert St., when his vehicle was struck from behind by a BMW. When Pizzi got out of his vehicle to inspect the damage, two men carrying firearms jumped out of the BMW and chased him. Pizzi escaped by running through a nearby park, where many children attending a day camp were playing.

In 2017, Rochebrun received a sentence of more than three years after he pleaded guilty to charges related to the firearms and other offences., in part because it was difficult to place him in a halfway house.

Francesco Del Balso, a former leader in the Rizzuto organization, was reportedly a suspect in the attempt on Rizzuto’s life. Someone tried to kill Del Balso twice in Laval, in November and January, before the attempt was made on Rizzuto.
