Endurance athlete Caroline Côté reached the South Pole in a world record time of 34 days, two hours and 53 minutes on an autonomous trek.

“I’m finally here at Union Glacier,” she said in her first memo in the South Pole, recounting the year she spent preparing for this exceptional trek. With an aim to inspire more women to find their place in the male-dominated field of exploration, Côté said she hoped to “pave the way for future women adventurers.”Article contentBritish explorer Hannah MacKeand, the first holder of this record, was at the Amundsen-Scott base to welcome Côté after an exhaustive trek. The Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station is a United States scientific research station located on the high plateau of Antarctica, 2,835 metres above sea level.

Since 2015, Côté has participated in numerous long-distance runs where she would continuously place in the top three, making her one of the best in the world. In the fall of 2022, she used her trek across Greenland as preparation for her latest feat.
