"Let's Go Biking books are for people who like slow biking," author Colleen MacDonald says.

By Colleen MacDonaldWhat started as a blog for avid cyclist Colleen MacDonald has turned into a book series.

The Metro Vancouver-based writer began posting her favourite rides, walks and runs on her website Let’s Go Biking for her friends and family to enjoy. Garnering an online readership, along with requests for more routes, she decided she would like to publish her posts in a book. MacDonald’s first title, Let’s Go Biking: Easy Rides, Walks & Runs Around Vancouver was published in 2018. Since then, the busy biker has penned two additional books, her latest being Let’s Go Biking: Vancouver Island, Gulf Islands + Sunshine Coast, which was released this summer. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.Let’s Go Biking: Vancouver Island, Gulf Islands + Sunshine Coast, by Colleen MacDonald.

Q: What made Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and the Sunshine Coast the perfect spots to highlight for the latest edition? My blog readers have been asking for an Islands’ book for many years. I’d been on a few rides in the region, but there were still more trails I needed to explore in order to write the book. Thinking a week or two would do it, six full weeks later we were still discovering exciting places to ride, walk and run.

Q: Do you have a favourite ride in this latest book? If so, which one and what makes it your top pick?Oh, that’s a hard one. I enjoyed exploring new trails and routes in the Comox Valley, Cowichan Valley, Gulf Islands and Central Island. I’m going with the Saanich Centennial Trails because these trails all link together and you can ride any loop in any direction, creating a new ride or walk each time. We loved these trails and rode them over-and-over during our visits to Victoria.
