Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to extend his 24-year rule after a three-day election that gave voters no real alternatives to the autocrat

Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to extend his rule for another six years after an election that offered no real alternatives. The three-day election, which started on Friday, took place in a tightly controlled environment where no public criticism of Mr Putin or his war in Ukraine was allowed.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said there were no casualties or damage. Russia's scattered opposition has urged those unhappy with Mr Putin or the war to express their protest by coming to the polls at noon on Sunday. This strategy was endorsed by Mr Navalny not long before his death. In Podolsk, a town near Moscow, a woman was made to pay a fine of 30,000 rubles and was accused of "discrediting the Russian army" after she ruined her ballot with a message that hasn't been shared, says OVD-Info, a group that keeps an eye on the police.
