Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that peace talks with Ukraine are possible but ruled out direct negotiations with President Volodymyr Zelensky, whom he labeled 'illegitimate'. Putin claimed the conflict could be resolved within months if Western military aid to Ukraine ceased. Zelensky countered, accusing Putin of fearing negotiations and employing 'cynical tricks' to prolong the war.

Russian President Vladimir Putin says if the West halted military aid to Ukraine, the conflict would be over within months.Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that his country could hold peace talks with Ukraine, but ruled out speaking directly with President Volodymyr Zelensky , whom he called"illegitimate".

"If wants to participate in the negotiations, I will allocate people to take part," Putin said, calling the Ukrainian leader"illegitimate" because his presidential term expired during martial law. "Today, Putin once again confirmed that he is afraid of negotiations, afraid of strong leaders, and does everything possible to prolong the war," Zelensky wrote on X.

The conflict has shown no signs of de-escalating despite Trump's promise to enact a quick ceasefire once in office. The Russian defence ministry said its forces had"liberated" the village of Dvorichna, which had a pre-conflict population of more than 3,000.
