Cardozo said he has been inspired by senators who have successfully championed issues that don’t always get the attention they should.
That includes former senators Landon Pearson, a children’s rights advocate, and former chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Murray Sinclair, who continued to advocate for reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples of Canada while in the Senate.
He noted that its role as a place of sober second thought means legislation is often improved at the Senate level. And senators are also able to shine a spotlight on issues that deserve attention.
