The Flying Shuttle was once dubbed 'Britain's toughest pub'
It's been over ten years since one of Greater Manchester's most notorious pubs called time, but not without incident.
Police found a bag of cannabis worth £100, evidence of cocaine use in the toilets, and a broken pool cue they believed was likely to be used as a weapon. They also uncovered cans and plastic bottles that had been filled with booze, proving many customers were not even buying drinks there.In a Bolton Council licensing hearing before the raid, licensing officer PC Garry Lee told councillors: "Not even John Wayne could sort out the problems there at the moment.
The national press picked up on the story of its closure, with some branding it the 'toughest pub in Britain'. When the Manchester Evening News ran a story on the pub back in 2020, readers posted in the Facebook comments things like: "Frank Gallagher wouldn't step foot in that place," and, "Awww, the flying bottle...what a great pub that was."
