'Part-Time Police Officers are an important resource for PSNI and we will continue to consider them within our planning process in line with current policy.'
The Chief Constable is considering mobilising almost 250 police officers who have been left off the duty rota during the ongoing public disorder crisis because their contracts are part time.
"We understand that Assistant Chief Constable Bobby Singleton is reviewing our situation but we have heard nothing. And the Chief Constable had had to trigger to the UK force co-operation agreement to bring officers into Northern Ireland from Scotland because he needs more feet on the ground. After successful completion of the process, they were known as POPT, Police Officers Part Time with numbers currently sitting at 250.
