'Not everything online is as it seems', says senior officer

The PSNI believe an image that appeared to show a man dressed as a Hamas fighter during Derry Halloween festivities is fake.

Area Commander for Derry City and Strabane, Chief Superintendent Nigel Goddard, had earlier said the costume 'may constitute a criminal offence'.The image circulated online over recent days and, on Wednesday, police confirmed they were aware of the picture and were making enquiries. “These enquiries to establish if the image is genuine have included a public appeal and a check of city centre CCTV. As of today, Thursday 2 November, we have not had any reports of anyone seeing this person in Guildhall Square dressed in this way, or found any other images online."
