Treasurer Jim Chalmers has urged the Coalition to pass legislation for the $2.4 billion change to the Petroleum Resources Rent Tax, including Woodside chief executive Meg O’Neil and BHP president Geraldine Slattery, paves the way for the passage of the legislation by the end of this month and before the busy May budget sittings.
“Our gas industry is vital for our manufacturers and bringing down household bills. The resources sector is vital to our economic prosperity and jobs across the country. In his speech to the Summit, Dr Chalmers announced that streamlined approvals will be incorporated into the review of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.
Dr Chalmers would not be drawn on details but said “there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to see if there’s something meaningful and responsible and affordable”.
