Study of Provincial Nominee Program shows immigration rise by 7 per cent in Saskatchewan since 2000.
“The federal government was concerned about this concentration of immigration, as were other provinces, notably those in the Prairie and Atlantic regions,” said the study.
“The findings show that the program has contributed to a substantial regional decentralization of economic immigrants,” said the study, adding that the characteristics of nominees has changed significantly since the program’s inception. “Provincial nominees now tend to be younger, have higher levels of education and are more likely to be principal applicants rather than spouses or dependants, compared with earlier provincial nominees. These changes would tend to improve economic outcomes.
