Premier releases video statement on state of emergency
The provincial government has declared state of emergency in central Newfoundland as a precaution because of the forest fires. It applies to the areas of Grand Falls-Windsor, Bishop’s Falls and the Connaigre Peninsula. Premier Andrew Furey released a video statement Saturday evening.
Forest fires are causing smoke and deteriorated air quality in areas of the central region. This is a precautionary measure, and there is no immediate fire hazard to homes or residents.
