Protests have spread countrywide after the Alexandra service delivery protests last week.
Protests have also flared up in parts of Pretoria on Thursday morning.
Soshanguve and Hammanskraal are on lockdown, with protesters blocking exits with burning tyres and objects. Law enforcement authorities in the capital city say the reason for the protests are unclear at this stage. “We are still yet to confirm exactly what are the issues,” said Tshwane Metro Police Spokesperson Isaac Mahamba. “
We are not going to tolerate any misbehavior, we are ready as police to deal with any situation that might arise.”Tshwane Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa is expected to deliver the state of the city address.Locals have are complaining about an assortment of issues which include lack of recreational facilities in the area, housing and an incomplete construction of their clinic.The residents blocked the N2 with burning tyres.
