Glyphosates are supposed to be dropping from the air, but residents are staying put to stop it.
A group of concerned citizens from the Burlington area in Kings County and other North Mountain communities held a rally on McNally Road Sept. 1 to protest the scheduled aerial spraying of glyphosate on a nearby recovering clear cut. “A lot of these people you see are people who live in this neighbourhood, whose land either borders the land scheduled to be sprayed or is downstream from it,” MacInnes Adams said. She said there is a headwater at the upper corner of the subject property, P.I.D. 55077747, and glyphosate spray is particularly hard on aquatic organisms. A stream from the headwater runs down through MacInnes Adam’s property and the properties of others.MacInnes Adams said they aren’t anti-forestry. They just don’t want chemicals being sprayed. She said glyphosate kills off hardwood trees and would have negative impacts on the entire ecosystem.
She said people’s sense of outrage this year is so strong and widespread that she believes they can accomplish it.
