Gerald Coetzee’s hamstring injury adds to the Proteas’ fast bowling crisis, following Anrich Nortje’s withdrawal from the Champions Trophy squad, raising concerns ahead of the tournament.
Proteas white-ball coach Rob Walter’s fast bowling headaches multiplied on Sunday after Gerald Coetzee was ruled out of the remainder of the SA20 with a hamstring injury.
Coetzee, who was the Proteas’ leading wicket-taker at the 2023 World Cup in India, was being lined up as a like-for-like replacement in the pace department. The Joburg Super Kings have stated that Coetzee will “undergo medical assessments and rehabilitation“. The Capitals have been without Nortje’s services with Daryn Dupavillion also now set to miss the remainder of the SA20.
