The proposal to establish a Deputy Federal leader for the Democratic Alliance has been narrowly defeated at the party’s Congress taking place in Midrand, Johannesburg.
The party is voting on a total of 82 amendments to its constitution. The motivation for a deputy to the party leader was based on the rationale that the party is growing and therefore roles and responsibilities should be expanded for the executive to share the workload.Federal Congress spokesperson Verner Horne announced the results.
“A number of the amendments that have passed speak to strengthening discipline within the party, improving the performance of branches, constituencies and provincial structures and tightening selection processes of public representatives.”
