Pro-Palestinian protesters took over Anna Head Alumnae Hall at UC Berkeley on Wednesday afternoon, police say.

UC Police says protesters have hopped the fence, broken windows and unfurled banners at the hall.

"Police are responding to what is a crime in progress. Those involved appear to be known People's Park activists. Today is the park's 55th anniversary. The building is a closed, unsafe, fire-damaged building adjacent to the park," said Dan Mogulof, UC Berkeley spokesperson. UC Berkeley administrators say demonstrators are "vandalizing an unsafe, boarded-up, fire-damaged building next to People's Park."

"We are in the process of confirming that the nonviolent coalition with whom the campus reached an understanding yesterday has no relationship to these People's Park activists," the university said in a statement.Copyright © 2024 KGO-TV. All Rights Reserved.
