This Pro Bowler from Auburn is leaving the Atlanta Falcons.
After playing linebacker and snapper at Carrollton High School in Georgia, Harris walked on atin 2007 and served as the regular long snapper from 2009 through 2011. He earned a scholarship in 2010, a season that ended with his snap for Wes Byrum’s 19-yard field goal that lifted Auburn to a 22-19 victory over Oregon in the BCS national championship game to cap an undefeated campaign. Harris represented Auburn at the 2012 Senior Bowl after his career on the Plains.
Just as Harris beat out scholarship player Dax Dellenbach at Auburn, he signed with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent and earned the long-snapper job in a training camp/preseason competition with Joe Zelenka, a 13-year NFL veteran.Harris follows Matt Overton as the Chargers’ long snapper. Overton became an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday afternoon after one season with Los Angeles.
