Police are looking for a shop assistant who claims to have seen Daniel Khalife after his escape from Wandsworth prison. The head of the Met Police has disclosed that officers are investigating whether prison guards helped him to escape.
from the Metropolitan Police regarding the confirmed sighting and freshly-announced reward for information:
"Detectives have received information from a member of the public who said they saw a man fitting Khalife’s description walking away from a Bidfood van that had stopped near the south entrance to the Wandsworth Roundabout, at the top of Trinity Road, shortly after his escape. "This is one of several key lines of enquiry that officers are pursuing.
He noted the"very significant development" we just brought you - that Khalife had been sighted on Wednesday morning at Wandsworth Roundabout - shortly after his escape. "Because this is an ongoing police investigation and I'm sure you can understand, it wouldn't be appropriate for me to provide a running commentary or detail on it," he said.
"The gates were sealed shut by police overnight and [search] helicopters were crisscrossing the area," she said outside the park. He was discharged from the British Army when criminal charges were brought against him on 22 May this year. The ex-serviceman was awaiting trial for allegedly eliciting information about members of the armed forces useful for terrorism under section 58 of the Terrorism Act. Khalife allegedly"obtained, collected, recorded, published or communicated to another person articles, notes, documents or information which were calculated to be or might be or were intended to be directly or indirectly useful to an enemy".His trial is due at Woolwich Crown Court on 20 November.
