The MountainHawks crowned 7 champs, including N.J. wrestlers Luke Stanich and Max Brignola.

For Lehigh, though, there were plenty of answers that could create some welcome questions down the road.Max Brignola, a junior from Rumson-Fair Haven, won his 157-pound bracket with a 21-8 major decision over Rider’s Colton Washleski. A NCAA qualifier as a freshman, Brignola wrestled unattached as he said he might take a redshirt this season.

Roxbury state champion Luke Stanich was just as dominant at 125 pounds in his first college event as a true freshman. Stanich won his championship match over Johnson & Wales’ Joziah Fry, 11-4, and also notched two technical falls and a pin. “Everything is up for debate right now,” said Santoro. “We’ll figure it out along the way. Last year, we wanted Max to redshirt and he really wanted to wrestle. This year, we told him you should redshirt and he’s like ‘I want to wrestle,’ but I think he’s 50-50.

“I thought I saw a lot of really good effort,” said Dubuque. “I saw guys take bad early losses and come back and rattle off five wins, which was great. We have a super young team, so it’s a good learning experience. If you didn’t like the way you performed or there was a problem with your routine, you have to change it. We’re not supposed to be in national championship form yet, so we have to stick to the process.
